Steve Bishop

Ranger Steven D. Bishop was born in Fort Madison, Iowa on August 6, 1949. He graduated from Fort Madison Senior High School in 1967. He enlisted in the United States Army at age 21 and served 20 years.

He was a combat veteran of Vietnam where he served in the 173rd ABN Brigade. He was later assigned to the 1st Battalion 75th Infantry (Ranger) and later with the 101st ABN DIV, and also the 82nd ABN DIV retiring at the rank of 1st Sergeant.

Steve went on to become a Ranger Instructor serving at Camp Frank D. Merrill in Dahlonega, Georgia where he met and married his wife Renee on June 19, 1983. They were happily married for 41 years.

Ranger Bishop received various medals and awards during his Army career to include The Bronze Star, Purple heart, several Meritorious Service Medals, Vietnam Service and Campaign medals, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Master Parachutist badge and the coveted Ranger Tab of which he was extremely proud.

Steve retired in 1991 moving to Buford, Georgia with his family where he also worked and retired from the US Postal Service in Gainesville, GA. Ranger Bishop was an active member of the US Mountain Ranger Association and volunteered his time on numerous occasions to help make events like Critter Cookout successful for many years.

Ranger Bishop passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. He was 75 years old.
