Sgt Robert Charles Gill completed Non-Commissioned Officer Candidate School as an E-5, Infantry MOS. He was assigned to the 1st Air Cavalry Division, Republic of South Vietnam, in July 1968. He volunteered for the Long Range Patrol Company of the 1st Air Cavalry Division. Completing the LRRP Company training, he was assigned as an Assistant Team Leader, then later as a Team Leader, conducting several missions. In November 1968, he successfully graduated from MAVC Recondo School. SGT Gill continued serving with the First Cav's LRRP company until it was designated as Hotel Company Ranger, 75 Inf Regiment. In May 1969, Sgt Gill transferred to Alpha Troop 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry, where he served as a squad leader in the Blues' Platoon. Returning to civilian life. Sgt Gill became a fireman, retiring as a local Fire Chief in Minneapolis, MN. Sgt Gill was active in several post-military affiliations, including the American Legion and as a life member of the 1st Cavalry Division Association. Sgt Gill served several years as president of the 1st Cavalry Division's LRRP/Ranger Association and on the board of officers, 1st Cavalry Division. Sgt Gill's decorations include the Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal /3 bronze service stars, Vietnam Gallantry Cross /with Palm, and several other personal decorations. Sgt Gill is buried in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. |
