Mark Fernandez

SFC Mark A Fernandez was born in Van Nuys, California. He enlisted in the US Army in 1981. He proudly served for 20 years in various infantry units. His assignments included Korea and Fort Ord, California, before being assigned to 2nd Battalion 75th Infantry Rangers in 1985. He was also later assigned to Germany and Ft. Polk, Louisiana.

His military education includes the Basic Airborne Course, Jungle Warfare, U.S. Army Ranger Course, PLDC, BNCOC, Long Range Surveillance Leaders Course, U.S. Army Jumpmaster School and ANCOC His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal-2, Army Commendation Medal –2, Army Achievement Medal -7, Good Conduct Medal -6, National Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon and Overseas Ribbon -2. He also received the Infantryman Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Ranger Tab and Bronze German Armed Forces Parachutist Badge.

After retirement, SFC Fernandez received his Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology Management and worked as a Government Contractor for several years before fully retiring.

Mark had a larger than life persona. If he was in a room, you soon knew it. He was loud, boisterous and fun loving but had a huge heart. His family and friends meant everything to him. He was always willing to help a friend or anyone in need. He loved riding his motorcycle and spending time with the members of his motorcycle club.

SFC Fernandez is survived by his wife, Rhonda Fernandez, two sons Matthew Fernandez and Mark Fernandez III and daughter Renee Ingraham, as well as, four grandchildren Vivian, Malek, Alexander and Liliana.
