Posted: 11/15/2024 Name: Bob Suchke Message: Ranger Steven D. Bishop, 75, of Buford, GA, died Tuesday, November 12, 2024. Funeral service will be held Sunday, November 17, 2024 at 2 PM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Pastor Mark Byrd will officiate. Interment will follow at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 17, 2024 from 12 PM – 2 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, in memory of Steven. Steven was born in Fort Madison, IA, on August 6, 1949. He graduated from Ft. Madison Senior High School in 1967. He enlisted in the United States Army at age 21 serving for 20 years. He served in the 173rd ABN Brigade, 1st BN 75th Ranger Regiment, 101st ABN DIV, and 82nd ABN DIV retiring at the rank of 1st Sergeant. He was an Airborne Ranger and Combat Veteran. He went on to become a Ranger Instructor at Camp Frank D. Merrill in Dahlonega, GA where he met and married his wife Renee on June 19, 1983. They were happily married for 41 years. Steve received various medals and awards during his Army career to include The Bronze Star, Purple heart and several Meritorious Service Medals, Combat Infantryman Badge, Master Parachutist badge and the coveted Ranger Tab of which he was extremely proud. Steve retired in 1991 moving to Buford, Ga with his family where he also worked and retired with the US Postal Service in Gainesville, GA. RIP Ranger Bishop RLTW! |
