Promoting fellowship & brotherhood among US Army Rangers

Pursuant to our mission of promoting fellowship and brotherhood among all US Amy Rangers, the US Mountain Ranger Association continually serves its fellow Rangers through programs honoring and assisting its members, their families and all Rangers, past and present.

USMRA is incorporated under the laws of the State of Georgia. As a charitable organization, it is exempt from Federal Income Tax under the terms of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

We are entirely self-supporting by donations and the tireless work of our members in a variety revenue generating activities with the goal of providing for scholarship awards to graduating high school seniors, recognizing former Camp Frank D. Merrill instructors, honoring our Fallen Rangers and supporting other special programs.

Membership Requirements

Membership in the USMRA is simple. All that is required is to be a graduate of US Army Ranger School or have served in a Ranger unit during combat operations.

Meet the Leadership Team

Steve Hawk
  • Served with B Co. 1st Bn (Ranger) 75th Infantry fron July 1974 to July 1980
  • Graduated with Ranger Class 6-75
  • 2nd Ranger Company Camp Merrill GA 31 Staff and 33 Staff
  • Developed and taught 5 of the classes for the first Desert Phase Ft. Bliss TX
  • Served as a Lumpkin County Sheriff's Deputy also Served as Chief Investigator
  • Served with Dawson County Sheriff's office, serving as Captian of Criminal Investigations and Commander of Detention Center
  • Began in 2005 with the Lumpkin County High School to present as JROTC Property Manager
  • 22 Years as local Little League coach and 24 years as Cubmaster and Scout Master of Pack and Troop 303 BSA
  • Selected as a Distinguished Member of the Ranger Training Brigade 2006
  • Served as Chairman of USMRA from 1998 to Present
Chuck Windham
  • Drafted June 1967, served to June 1969
  • Served with Echo Co.(LRP), 52 Inf(ABN) and Hotel Co.(RANGER), 75th Inf(AIRBORNE) as a long range patrol team leader
  • Graduated NCOC school as an E-6, Staff Sergeant
  • Graduate of the 5th Special Forces Recondo School
  • Airborne, MOS 11F4P. Retired
  • Life Member-1st Calvary Div. LRRP/Ranger Assn
  • Life Member Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 970, Long Range Reconnaissance Assn
  • Inducted into the Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame, November, 2016
Bob Suchke
  • Lieutenant Colonel (ret) USA Special Forces
  • Entered US Army in June 1969, Regular Army Infantry
  • Graduated IOBC, Airborne & Ranger Class 6-70 Fort Benning, Georgia
  • Assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division as a weapons Platoon Leader
  • 1st Bn 508th Airborne Infantry (1969-1970).
  • Assigned to 101st Airborne Division Republic of Vietnam (1970-1971)
  • As an Aero-rifle platoon leader in the 2/17 Air Cavalry and later as Platoon leader in L Company 75th Infantry (Rangers)
  • Reassigned to the Mountain Ranger Camp in 1971 as a Ranger Instructor (1971-1974) Camp Frank D. Merrill
  • Infantry Officer's Advanced Course (1974-1975) Fort Benning
  • Assigned to 25th Infantry Division (1975-1978) served as S-3 Air, Rifle Company Commander and S-4 in 1st of the 14th Infantry Battalion
  • 1978-1981 Served as Secretary of the General Staff 98th Division, Rochester, New York (Reserve Components)
  • 1981-1983 Training Developer and Chief Instructor John F. Kennedy Special Warfare School
  • 1983-1986 B-Detachment Commander 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) Also served as 5th Group S-1 and 3rd Battalion Executive Officer
  • 1986-1987 Group Executive Officer and Deputy Commander of 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) Fort Lewis Washington.
  • 1987-1990 Commander 1st Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) Okinawa, Japan.
  • 1990-1992 Served as Chief, Army Special Operations Branch, DCSOPS Pentagon, Washington D.C.
  • 1992 Retired to Dahlonega, Georgia and started Dahlonega Firewood and Timber Company
  • Served as Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader 1992 - 1999 Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 36 1995-1999

Bob Williams
  • Entered service on May 12,1981 from the great state of Iowa
  • Served with Charlie Weapons Plt, 2nd Bn (Ranger) 75th Infantry from Oct 1981 to May 1983
  • Graduated with Ranger Class 9-82
  • Served with 1st Bn, 7th SFGA from May 1983 to May 1984
  • Served with 2nd Ranger Company, Camp Merrill, GA, Aggressor Plt, 31/33 Staff, & Assit S-3 NCO from May 1984 to Dec 1987
  • Medically discharged Dec 22, 1987 as an E-6, Staff Sergeant
  • Earned a BA in English Education and a MA in Middle School Social Studies
  • Served as a public school teaher at the middle shool, high school, and techincal college levels from 1993 to present
